Field Courses

The Piano Technician Academy is first and foremost a Online Piano Tuning and Repair School. Over the years we have been asked by our students to develop more courses in other piano related areas. At this moment in time we currently offer an online  Piano Moving course in addition to our Piano Tuning and Repair Course.

Understanding Field Courses

PTA Field Courses are designed specifically for piano tuners who feel confident in their tuning skills but aren’t yet comfortable with the hands-on techniques of regulation, voicing, or repair.

These targeted, online courses are built to fill in those gaps—equipping technicians with the practical skills they need to improve the tone and playability of any piano, in any home, on any job.

Whether you're adjusting a misfiring action, voicing uneven hammers, or handling common repairs, our Field Courses give you the tools and knowledge to deliver more value during every service call.

Training for Real-World Jobs

Each course is structured around the realities of in-home piano service, taking into account the time and budget constraints that technicians face daily.

By learning how to enhance the overall performance of your clients’ pianos without requiring major part replacements or extended shop time, you'll not only elevate your craft—you’ll also increase your income.

These are the skills that turn a good tuner into a great technician. PTA Field Courses: the skills you wish you had on your last job.

Designed for Working Technicians

Our Field Courses are designed for working piano tuners who want to go beyond the basics and offer more comprehensive service to their clients. The ideal student is someone who has completed our flagship Piano Tuning & Repair V4 course or has been tuning in the field for a while and is ready to take the next step.

These courses are not intended for complete beginners—instead, they’re built for technicians who already understand tuning but want to confidently handle regulation, voicing, and common repairs during everyday appointments.

Build Confidence Through Practical Skills

If you’ve ever been at a tuning appointment and wished you had the skills to adjust a sluggish action, voice uneven hammers, or fix a broken hammer shank—but didn’t know where to start—these are the courses you’ve been waiting for.

Designed with real-world conditions in mind, our Field Courses give you the knowledge and structure to improve your clients’ pianos on the spot, increase customer satisfaction, and grow your income with every visit.
